Our Adversary: The Devil (Isaiah 14:12-16)

Our Adversary: The Devil (Isaiah 14:12-16)

The Devil is often portrayed as an impish creature or a fiendish monster. What does the Bible have to say regarding his origins and character?

  • Who is Satan: The Hebrew word Satan, means accuser or adversary. He is a fallen angel of God who wants to make us like himself.
  • Where did he come from: His fall from glory is found in Ezekiel 28 and in it we learn he was created as an angel of light, not a monster.
  • Why Did Satan Fall: Satan’s sin was pride! We don’t need to be exalted higher than God to be like Satan; it is enough to want to be exalted above other people.
  • How do we keep from becoming like him: We must live lives of humility, seeking to bring others into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!
