Position: Assistant Pastor (of youth ministries)
Reports to: Sr. Pastor
Supervises: paid staff and volunteers
Classification: full time, permanent
Overview:
This position exists to provide leadership to all children and youth related ministries within SOTH to include, but not be limited to: Calvary Chapel Academy, H2O Youth ministries (K-12), Sunday School, and Jr Church programs.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be:
- a man who is qualified to serve as a pastor, in accordance with biblical standards (1Timothy 4 and Titus 1).
- have experience leading similar ministries
- possess a Bible College degree, and/or equivalent experience as determined through an examination of said candidate’s background
- agree, without reservation, with all points of SOTH’s Articles of Faith, SOTH Distinctives, and the Calvary Chapel Distinctives (all available through the church’s website)
- able to pass a background check, as required by State law
- have a desire to serve the people within SOTH
- willing to be flexible in their role as it pertains to tasks and responsibilities
- supported by his wife, if married
- knowledgeable with regards to theology and be able to share and defend the faith
- be able to work with and/or without direct supervision
Appointment:
This position serves at the pleasure of the senior pastor and the board of elders, and is considered an “at-will” position. The successful candidate will be required to complete a 90 day probationary period prior to receiving any employment related benefits. We all wear many hats within the ministry of SOTH, which means there is no such thing as “that’s not my job.” We all help where and when needed, and we do so out of love for the Lord and one another.
Details:
This role will be expected to fulfill the following duties
Carry out the vision of the senior pastor
Serve as a staff pastor to Shepherd of the Hills Calvary Chapel (10%)
- Offer general ministry services (prayer, counsel, visitation, etc.) to the church fellowship
- Help to prepare, execute, and tear down after events, as needed
- Be prepared to preach in the absence of the senior pastor, as needed
- Be prepared to officiate weddings, funerals, dedications, baptisms, as needed
- Be prepared to teach at various church gatherings (Sunday morning, Wednesday night, Academy chapel services, Sunday School, etc.)
- Prepare and submit reports, as needed
- Other duties, as may be required and/or assigned
*The functions listed above are not intended to limit the scope of ministry services. Also, these functions are intended to occur infrequently, and almost always as a special circumstance – they are not additional considered a normal part of this job function.
Provide leadership to Calvary Chapel Academy (40%)
- Meet with staff and volunteers to ensure each person is equipped to succeed
- Meet with parents and prospective parents, and represent the Academy
- Develop and implement growth strategies
- Innovate the Academy program to ensure it is both competitive and of high quality
- Be the “face” of the Academy to the public
- Organize and plan field trips, fund raisers, and other school-wide events
- Provide leadership to staff and ensure all positions are filled
- Be willing to teach a class in the event no substitute is available
- Manage the Academy calendar to ensure events are planned and shared effectively
- Provide a weekly chapel message (about 10 minutes)
- Meet with the senior pastor to ensure the Academy is moving in a direction consistent with the vision.
- Other tasks/duties, as may be required and/or assigned.
Provide Leadership to the H2O Youth program/ministries (40%)
- Serve as the overseeing youth pastor, providing leadership and guidance to other paid and volunteer staff
- Disciple current and future leaders
- Plan youth outings, trips, and other off-campus events
- Communicate with parents, staff, volunteers, and youth well and regularly
- Provide theological guidance to the youth groups and leaders
- Provide biblically sound teaching to youth gatherings
- Be available for counseling and other forms of one-on-one discipleship
- Other tasks/duties, as may be required and/or assigned.
Provide Leadership to other children’s ministries throughout the church (10%)
- Provide leadership and guidance to the youth ministry director
- Be a resource for staff and volunteers regarding supplies, equipment, training, counseling, and other forms of need which may arise
- Other tasks/duties, as may be required and/or assigned.

CALVARY CHAPEL ACADEMY TEACHER:
The church is hiring a part-time teacher for elementary and middle school aged students (grades 1-6). Teachers are expected to arrive on time and prepared with a daily lesson adapted from the established curriculum. Lessons should be engaging, interactive, and designed to encourage students to participate and think. In addition, the lessons should challenge students to grow in both knowledge and ability.

TEACHING AIDE:
The church is hiring a part-time teaching aide. The aide is responsible for supporting the teaching in creating an environment that promotes the spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth of the participants in their assigned classrooms. The position is approximately 16 hours a week; Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Teaching experience preferred; however, the role is primarily supportive in nature with minimal direct teaching on the part of the assistant.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER:
We are seeking enthusiastic and adaptable substitute teachers to join our team. As a substitute teacher, you will provide instructional support and classroom management in the absence of regular teachers. This role requires a passion for Christian education, a flexible schedule, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher.
- Manage classroom behavior to ensure a productive learning environment.
- Maintain effective communication with students, staff, and administration.
- Follow school policies and uphold Calvary Chapel Academy values and mission.
This is an On-Call, as needed basis. This is not a benefit eligible job.

Service Opportunities
CRIB ROOM ASSISTANT: We are looking for volunteers to assist our Crib Room and Toddler care rooms during the 9:30 AM Service. Building Upkeep Volunteers: We are seeking individuals who are interested in helping to clean the building and perform general upkeep as needed. If interested, please contact the church office at [email protected]
Multimedia Team: We're looking for people to join our multimedia team on Sunday mornings. You would be helping with video and audio production, sound mixing, and other tech-related areas of the Sunday service. If you're interested in helping, let us know! CHRONICLES BOOKS STORE ATTENDANT: We are looking for volunteers to help assist our Sunday morning operations (8 AM – 12:30 PM) at our bookstore, Chronicles Christian Books. If you have a love of books and coffee, this may be a perfect opportunity for you. Training will be provided; a general knowledge of technology & tablet devices is a plus. WORSHIP TEAM: We are currently looking for anyone interested in serving with our One Voice worship ministry. Whether you sing, plan an instrument, operate sound equipment, or run projectors, we're looking for you. Must be able to commit to one Sunday per month. CONNECT GROUP LEADER: We are currently looking for people to host in-home small groups. The person must be a believer, be able to host a group of between 7 and 10 other people twice per month and be able to coordinate the group's meetings. This person ideally will have a spiritual giftedness of a pastor, teacher, administrator, host, or other relevant gift.
