The Bible and church membership:

There are no passages in the Bible that explain church membership as we know it today.  There are, however, numerous examples of membership in action.  For example, when the Apostle Paul writes to the church at Philippi he mentions two women by name, Euodia and Syntyche (Philippians 4:2).  It would not be possible for Paul to know the names of these two women without them being part of the fellowship in a documented way.

Also, in the book of Acts, we read "the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved" (Acts 2:47).  The fact new people were "added" tells us the early church had a way of recording the event.  Following this model, we have developed a method of adding people to the fellowship here at Shepherd.

Why should I consider membership?

Nothing about the Christian faith is by accident, it all requires being intentional about your relationship with God.  Membership allows us to extend that intentional approach to our church connection.  At Shepherd of the Hills being a member is a way of saying "I'm committed to growing in my faith with these brothers and sisters in Christ."  Membership also allows the church to commit to you by pledging to help you in any way possible.

What does it mean to be a member?

Members are expected to continue to grow and mature in their faith, to support to ministry of Shepherd, to be active in their church community, to evangelize those in their lives with the gospel message, and to do their best to be good examples for Christ.

Before being added as a member, each person will affirm the following statements before the church:

  1. I have confessed Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and have an ongoing and growing relationship with Him.
  2. I will support the ministry of Shepherd of the Hills through my prayer, service, and giving.
  3. I will be in regular fellowship and worship with the church
  4. I will evangelize those around me as the Lord provides opportunity
  5. I will do my best to maintain a positive witness to the world as an ambassador of Christ.

Members at Shepherd of the Hills are also able to vote in church business, elect leaders, and hold positions of leadership as needed and qualified, and enjoy other aspects of church membership.

How can I join?

Every second Sunday at 12:15 PM we offer a membership class for those wishing to join our congregation.  New members will be given a booklet covering basic areas of the church, which is used during the class.  This class lasts about 45 minutes and covers the following areas:
  • Church government
  • doctrine and beliefs
  • rights/responsibilities of members
  • church policies
  • other areas as needed to help the new member become familiar with the church

Upon completing the membership class new members will be given a membership registration sheet to fill out and turn in, and they will be added to our rolls as members of Shepherd of the Hills.

The following Sunday, new members are welcomed into the church.

If you would like to attend a membership class, please sign up at the welcome desk in the foyer.

You can also email Pastor Collin at to be added to the list.

Food is provided.
