Position: Calvary Chapel Academy Director

Reports to: Sr. Pastor
Supervises: paid staff and volunteers
Classification: full time, permanent (32 hours/week)

Overview:  

This position exists to provide leadership to Calvary Chapel Academy, a ministry of Shepherd of the Hills Calvary Chapel.  The director is responsible for providing leadership and direction to Academy staff and volunteers.   

The director will split his/her time between reactive tasks (i.e. school day operations, administrative work, being available to staff when school is in session, etc.) and proactive tasks (advertising,  

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will be:  

  • A believer with a growing relationship with Jesus Christ 

  • An active/regular attender at Shepherd of the Hills Calvary Chapel (this is their home church) 

  • Experienced and passionate about Christian education 

  • Able to communicate the vision to others in a way that generates excitement  

  • Able to resolve interpersonal problems that may arise between staff and/or volunteers 

  • Able to manage the administrative resources of the Academy 

  • A trained teacher (preferred, but experience can substitute for formal education) 

Appointment:

This position serves at the pleasure of the senior pastor and the board of elders, and is considered an “at-will” position.  The successful candidate will be required to complete a 90 day probationary period prior to receiving any employment related benefits. We all wear many hats within the ministry of SOTH, which means there is no such thing as “that’s not my job.”  We all help where and when needed, and we do so out of love for the Lord and one another. 

Details:

This role will be expected to fulfill the following duties 

Carry out the vision of the senior pastor 

Provide leadership to Calvary Chapel Academy  

  • Meet with staff and volunteers to ensure each person is equipped to succeed 

  • Meet with parents and prospective parents, and represent the Academy 

  • Develop and implement growth strategies to achieve year over year goals 

  • Innovate the Academy program to ensure it is both competitive and of high quality 

  • Be the “face” of the Academy to the public 

  • Organize and plan field trips, fund raisers, and other school-wide events 

  • Provide leadership to staff and ensure all positions are filled 

  • Be willing to teach a class in the event no substitute is available 

  • Manage the Academy calendar to ensure events are planned and shared effectively 

  • Provide a weekly chapel message (about 10 minutes) if/as needed 

  • Meet with the senior pastor to ensure the Academy is moving in a direction consistent with the vision. 

  • Create an environment that fosters unity and team-mentality 

  • Other tasks/duties, as may be required and/or assigned.

Position: Calvary Chapel Academy Teacher:

Reports to: Sr. Pastor
Supervises: N/A
Classification: Salaried, Part-time (10 hours/week)
Schedule: 8:30-12:30 Tues/Thurs during the school year (Mon-Thurs schedules are also available)

Overview:

This position consists of leading a classroom of elementary and middle school aged students (grades 1-8). 

Teachers are expected to arrive on time and prepared with a daily lesson adapted from the established curriculum.  Lessons should be engaging, interactive, and designed to encourage students to participate and think.  In addition, the lessons should challenge students to grow in both knowledge and ability.

  • Math
  • Language Arts

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be:

  • A believer in the Lord Jesus Christ
  • One who affirms the church’s statement of faith, and the Calvary Chapel Distinctives
    • (Any disagreement must be disclosed during the hiring process)
  • In regular attendance with their family (if married/has children) at Shepherd of the Hills or a like-minded church.
  • If they are married, their spouse is supportive of their ministry
  • Able to lead a classroom and establish themselves as the authority in the room.
  • Able to work with volunteer parents in the delivery of course materials and instruction.
  • Experienced with office equipment (ex: computers, printers, multi-line phones, email, fax, etc.)
  • College and/or teaching experience is appreciated but not necessarily required
  • One with a friendly disposition to others
  • Patient with others
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task
  • Considers this a service in the Kingdom, and not just a “job”

Details:

  • Carry out the vision of the senior pastor
  • Attend meetings as needed and/or scheduled
  • Send emails and/or make calls
  • Organize volunteers
  • Hold conferences with parents as needed and/or scheduled
  • Participate in school-wide activities and field trips
  • Coordinate with other teachers
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and parents as needed, in love, and with the intent of building up.
  • Deliver engaging lessons for periods lasting up to 1 hour.
  • Light cleaning as needed
  • Making phone calls for various reasons
  • Other duties as may be assigned…

While this list of duties contains items which a teacher will be expected to perform on a regular basis, the nature of ministry work means other tasks not on this list may arise, which will require this person’s assistance.  We strive for a team environment at Shepherd of the Hills, meaning we all often help where needed, even if it is not within the scope of a “normal” day.  While these kinds of tasks will be the exception and not the rule, the expectation is help will be provided if, when, and where needed.

This position is considered a security-sensitive position due to the proximity of children required.  As such, a background will be required as part of the screening process in accordance with state law, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon satisfactory background.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER:

We are seeking enthusiastic and adaptable substitute teachers to join our team. As a substitute teacher, you will provide instructional support and classroom management in the absence of regular teachers. This role requires a passion for Christian education, a flexible schedule, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher. 
  • Manage classroom behavior to ensure a productive learning environment. 
  • Maintain effective communication with students, staff, and administration. 
  • Follow school policies and uphold Calvary Chapel Academy values and mission. 

This is an On-Call, as needed basis. This is not a benefit eligible job.

Service Opportunities

CRIB ROOM ASSISTANT: We are looking for volunteers to assist our Crib Room and Toddler care rooms during the 9:30 AM Service. Building Upkeep Volunteers: We are seeking individuals who are interested in helping to clean the building and perform general upkeep as needed. If interested, please contact the church office at [email protected]

Multimedia Team: We're looking for people to join our multimedia team on Sunday mornings. You would be helping with video and audio production, sound mixing, and other tech-related areas of the Sunday service. If you're interested in helping, let us know! Experience not needed and we will provide all the training you need. CHRONICLES BOOKS STORE ATTENDANT: We are looking for volunteers to help assist our Sunday morning operations (8 AM – 12:30 PM) at our bookstore, Chronicles Christian Books. If you have a love of books and coffee, this may be a perfect opportunity for you. Training will be provided; a general knowledge of technology & tablet devices is a plus. WORSHIP TEAM: We are currently looking for anyone interested in serving with our One Voice worship ministry.  Whether you sing, plan an instrument, operate sound equipment, or run projectors, we're looking for you.  Must be able to commit to one Sunday per month.  For more information, please contact Pastor Jon Grove at [email protected]

CONNECT GROUP LEADER:  We are currently looking for people to host in-home small groups.  The person must be a believer, be able to host a group of between 7 and 10 other people twice per month and be able to coordinate the group's meetings.  This person ideally will have a spiritual giftedness of a pastor, teacher, administrator, host, or other relevant gift.  If you are interested in serving in this way, please contact Pastor Jason at [email protected]
